Once upon a time, I played Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst, and created a character named Omega. She soon developed a huge-ass, constantly-changing backstory in my head, refused to be let go of, and has since reincarnated herself in every Phantasy Star game I’ve played since. So, here are her incarnations, in order from that first start, to Phantasy Star Universe (including Portable), to Phantasy Star Zero (where she snuck in WITHOUT ME DELIBERATELY MAKING HER oh my god why.) Enjoy, or something.
oh dear god wall of text why i do dis ._.
Omega Menai
24-year-old newman (HUnewearl class; 20 at the start), skilled with thunder and light techniques and various melee weapons. Born out of the early stages of the first newman experiments, she was all too aware of her mortality, yet determined to live her life to the fullest until she couldn't even move. At age fourteen, she became a Hunter, rapidly growing in skill and soon earning herself the nickname of "Flame of Death" due to her burning passion for fighting and growing stronger; she eventually met two other Hunters named Genevieve and Iris, and with them formed the legendary group of the Sankaryuudo (Three Hunters) - it was later discovered that Iris was her older sister, an earlier product of the same experiments that formed her. Near the end of her lifespan, she met a HUmar who she fell in love with; they were eventually married, despite the both of them knowing she didn't have much longer to live. When her dying day approached, rather than be lost forever, she allowed her memories to be electronically stored, her body completely remade, and the stored memories implanted in her new successor, Sera Cecille. These memories would not be accessible for a long time, however, and Sera went on to become an ultimately successful killing machine before the memories awakened and she was able to regain any sense of humanity. It was later revealed that D-cells that had been implanted into Omega (and later Sera) were the cause of her extreme power, and she would forever have a connection to Dark Falz, never being able to completely purge the darkness from herself; with that in mind, Sera eventually used her own soul to create a seal of sorts on Falz, sacrificing herself to try and bring a bit more peace to the world.
Lily Forscythe
21-year-old newman (Fortetecher/Fighgunner class; 17 at the start), skilled with thunder and light techniques and various melee weapons. Created in an embryonic stage along with her twin sister Iris, she was "born" and raised for the first four years of her life in a lab on Neudaiz, but lost her memories when the lab was attacked and she somehow managed to escape on her own, managing to sneak on board a PPT shuttle bound for Moatoob. From there, she was found and taken in by Alfort Tylor and raised by him until she was thirteen, when she left Moatoob to become a Guardian. Soon after, she met Iris again, and after pursuing her for several months, discovered both Iris' and her own true identity. However, she again lost these memories for a short time when she was sixteen, after she became infected by the SEED-Virus and an assassination attempt against the Forscythe family (leaving her the only survivor, saved by a mysterious girl who took her place) inflicted great trauma on her mind. She took on the name of her saviour, Lien Eternelir, and found steady work with both GRM and the Guardians for a short while until GRM was disbanded, entering into a relationship with Hyuga Ryght at the same time; when she regained her memories again, however, she found herself torn between her feelings for Hyuga and a long-buried crush on Ethan Waber, who she trained alongside after the colony's fall. She's still mostly unable to decide even years later, but her new duties as the commander of the Guardians Mobile Defense Force - and as the mother of a three-year-old child - keep her far too busy to think about it much.
Latis Walsh
14-year-old newman (Acromaster class), skilled with thunder and light techniques and various melee weapons. She was born on Parum, but was taken to the Guardians colony at a very young age when her parents were killed; as a result, she sealed off all her memories of the time before being taken to the colony and growing up in an orphanage there, which affected her personality deeply and caused her to withdraw into herself for most of her childhood. As it is, she still comes off extremely shy to most people, and even has trouble opening up to those she knows well - this tends to hinder her in her duties as a Guardian, so she usually works alongside partners that are used to deciphering her awkward silences and body language. However, she is known as being very levelheaded and calm and is generally easy to work with if one can get around her shyness. Being incredibly mature and insightful for her age, she is usually the one people turn to when an important decision needs to be made; this tends to confuse her to no end, but she does her best to view all sides of the situation and offer suitable advice anyway. She has a rather odd attraction to Izuma Rutsu, the Light Master of the Communion of Gurhal, which annoys her to no end, as she thinks he's very pretentious and stuck up and can't see how she could possibly like him so much. However, she's usually far too occupied with missions to think about it, which is some relief. She also tends to have strange dreams of being someone else and fighting a powerful apparition of darkness, but is unaware that they're actually memories...given to her by a portion of an ancient spirit residing in her body.
Sera Cecille
19-year-old newman (Vanguard class), skilled with thunder and light techniques and various melee weapons. Born on Neudaiz, she was taken in by the Communion at a young age as a potential Sister of the Holy Light, but the fierce training she was forced to undergo took a heavy toll on both her mental and physical health and it didn't take long for her to begin disliking, then horribly detesting the Communion and everything related to it (though she still has a very close relationship with the Divine Maiden.) She would often run away to various areas of Neudaiz and simply wander around for a while to clear her head, and it was during one of these periods that she met a human boy named Shizuru, a year older than herself, who she became fast friends with and soon found herself always seeking out whenever Communion life became too much for her and she needed "a breath of fresh air". They remained secret friends until Sera was fifteen, often hiding themselves in an ancient, ruined castle that Shizuru was extremely fond of, until Sera was discovered there one day and returned to the Communion by force; she finally realised then that she couldn't continue living like this and ran from Neudaiz, joining with an unnamed mercenary group and quickly honing her skills with them, eventually leaving them as well to become one of the top freelancers in the Gurhal system. It was only a few years after that when, investigating the Seabed Relics site on Parum, she met Emilia Percival and became a member of Little Wing; by then, she had successfully suppressed most of her memories of her previous life and almost all of her true emotion. In this state, she faced off against Shizuru several times without remembering who he was, though scattered bits of her memories began to seep back. It wasn't until stepping into the subspace of his memories that she remembered as well, and with that recollection, she was finally able to open back up to herself and save him. Since then, she has maintained her relationship with Shizuru, and it seems to be quickly moving on to something more than just childhood friendship.
Amalia Selden
17-year-old newman (HUnewearl class), skilled with thunder and light techniques and various melee weapons. Due to traumatic amnesia when her descent pod crashed, her past is mostly unknown to her except for bits and pieces, but she knows that she comes from the moon Arca and that she was once a part of a resistance group there, fighting to free the newmans from the control of Mother Trinity, an omniscient and sentient supercomputer who was corrupted by the influence of Dark Falz. From there, her memories start with awakening after the crash and being assigned by her superior, Reve, to spy on the humans; she betrayed her orders, however, and sided with them, soon turning openly against Reve and even fighting him on two occasions to prove her strength of will and spirit. Eventually she returned to the moon (where she had her second encounter and battle with Reve), and with the help of the resistance, was able to confront Mother Trinity directly. There, she learned about the true weight of her own existence - she is the reincarnation of a legendary heroine who had fought Mother Trinity two hundred years ago, before the events of what all humans know as the Great Blank - caused by Mother Trinity's own power, for the purpose of wiping out all life and starting anew. Surpassing even her predecessor's willpower and strength, she defeated Mother Trinity, and found her to have been possessed and corrupted by Falz; upon defeating Falz as well, she was able to free the newmans and bring peace to the humans and CASTs. Afterwards, she was quick to forgive Reve - who had also eventually turned against Mother Trinity and grudgingly aided the resistance - and has since become a close friend and confidant of his, though he seems completely clueless to all of her attempts to sneakily try and drag him into a romantic relationship, and she's too shy to ask him outright.
